Here at Acle we have Tom our first contact musculoskeletal practitioner (MSK). Our MSK’s aim to provide diagnosis, education, and necessary exercise to enable patients to manage their condition from a one-off session with an experienced clinician.
First contact musculoskeletal practitioner use their knowledge of how the body works and how it is affected by conditions of the musculoskeletal system (soft tissue, joints, and bones) to devise treatment plans appropriate to each individual’s patient’s condition and management.
There are key differences in MSK versus traditional physiotherapy. This service is about very much placing experienced musculoskeletal physiotherapists with additional skills like the ability to refer for imaging, secondary care opinion (e.g. orthopaedics or rheumatology) or injection therapies – in general practice to be able to quickly assess and help patients manage their musculoskeletal conditions from the first contact instead of needing to see a clinician to then being referred to the appropriate service.
Benefits to patients are:
- Opportunities to gain lifestyle/physical activity advice.
- Quick access to expert physiotherapy assessment, diagnosis, treatment, and advice.
- Prevention of short-term problems becoming long-term conditions.
- Improved patient experience.
- A shorter pathway, so patients have fewer appointments to attend.
If you would like to discuss any matter confidentially please advise the receptionist on the front desk or dispenser and they will take you to an area of privacy.
Medication reviews are carried out at the surgery at regular intervals. If you are informed that you need a medication review then please request an appointment.
- If you have been advised by the surgery to submit an annual review of your contraceptive pill please use our online form.
The District nurses carry out various procedures in your own home, and act as an extension of our team at the health centre for those patients who are housebound.
Cervical cancer can be prevented. Routine screening is an effective way of detecting disease at an early stage, so that it is curable.
We carry out a screening program and we strongly encourage you to come for a cervical smear when you receive an invitation letter.
Certain minor surgical procedures are carried out by some of our clinicians.
Suitable appointments can be arranged by speaking to a GP in the first instance.
Microsuction is offered at the surgery for removal of ear wax. If you are registered with our practice, you may be referred by your GP or nurse.
We also take referrals from other surgeries for this service but you must have been seen by your own surgery first for a referral to be sent through to us.
We have limited home visiting services reserved for patients who are house bound, terminally ill and some other exceptional circumstances; a doctor will review your request.
At home the doctor will only have limited equipment and it is often difficult to perform a full assessment of your symptoms. It is therefore essential that if it is at all possible that you attend the Surgery to see the doctor.
If you do need a home visit, please contact the Practice before 10:30.
Please be prepared to give some details about the reason for the home visit so that we can deal with your enquiry more efficiently.
