Please read the information below regarding Mounjaro (Tirzepatide) weight loss injections following recent NHS England and media announcements that this medication is available in primary care from 23rd June 2025.
Our local Integrated Care Board (ICB) has not commissioned (funded) this service for any GP practices in Norfolk & Waveney so we regret we are unable to offer weight loss injections at Acle Medical Centre.
The positive news is that the ICB are developing a new community weight management pathway which we will be able to refer our patients directly into for those that meet the strict criteria set out by NHS England. This pathway is not currently set up but is expected later in 2025. Unfortunately, we have no further information beyond this currently.
Please see the ICB website for more information and their plans for this new dedicated weight management service. There is also more detailed information on the eligibility criteria and useful FAQs regarding these weight loss injections.
When this pathway is set up we will be able to refer eligible patients only. This is a criteria set nationally and is fixed and outside of our control.
Eligibility criteria:
Patients must have AT LEAST 4 of the 5 qualifying health conditions:
• Type 2 Diabetes
• High blood pressure
• Heart disease
• Obstructive sleep apnoea
• Abnormal blood fats/high cholesterol
PLUS a BMI of at least 40
We will update our Acle practice website when this service is ready and we are able to start consultations to discuss this further. This will be for those patients who meet the criteria above and may be eligible.
We are of course still able to offer consultations to support weight loss, lifestyle change and onwards referral to Tier 2 & Tier 3 weight management services as appropriate. Supporting weight loss and lifestyle change is a really important part of our core GP service and as a practice we feel strongly about the long-term health benefits and the positive impact on chronic diseases and population health.
However, due to anticipated demand we want to be open and transparent in advance about what we can and cannot offer so we can continue to provide ongoing high quality acute and routine care on a day-to-day basis for all our patients.
Many thanks for your understanding
